If you’re looking for great coffee or beer in a cool space look no further than Depot Town Ypsilanti where you’ll find Cultivate Coffee and Tap House. You’ll can find both expertly made espresso drinks and a variety of rotating Michigan beers on tap.
Located off River Street behind the Sidetrack parking lots you’ll find a transformed former auto body shop. When you first step into Cultivate’s space you’ll be amazed at the beautiful hand-crafted rooms full of character and sophistication. Behind the beautifully designed bar is a row of 30 taps offering a varying selection of beers and ciders for the older crowd. There’s plenty of seating in the back room, with long wooden tables, a concrete bar with stools and a soon-to-be patio space when Spring rolls around. Make sure to wander back and look up to see the colorful mural too!
The large chalkboard in the main room lists hosted events, including food trucks (yes!), game nights, tutoring workshops, and more. In fact, Cultivate highly encourages groups to bring their events here.
If you’re a coffee fan I highly recommend the seasonal Fireside latte – their version of a pumpkin spice – in the fall, or more recently, the Ron Weasley, with a mix of spices and touch of magic! What I like best is neither is overloaded with sweetness so you can still taste the espresso along with the complexity of spices. They offer a variety of other espresso drinks and pour-over coffee options as well.
Come back later in the day for a chance to try their selection of local beers and cider. I sampled the Cherry Creek cider recently, which is excellent with a nice balance between dry and sweet with a crisp finish.
If it weren’t already enough to have great crafted beverages, a beautiful environment and friendly staff one of my favorite parts about Cultivate is that they give back to the local community every day. All tips and profits go to fight hunger through partnerships with area charities, including Food Gather’s and Growing Hope.
I think it’s a great addition to the community. I hope you get a chance to stop in and give them a try and please, let me know what you think!
